M.I.D. London Gazette 16 March 1919.
Hamilton Hofman Scott was born at Dedham, Essex in 1886, the son of Robert and Julia Scott. He was educated at the Leys School, Cambridgeshire appearing there on the 1901 Census before getting work as a broker.
He was performing that role upon his attestation on 15 September 1914, with the service with the number 2040. Attending an officer training programme, he was commissioned Second Lieutenant on 10 June 1915 with the 3rd Battalion King's Shopshire Light Infantry.
Posted to France attached to the 1st Battalion he served there for some time, being advanced Lieutenant on 1 July 1917. The Ludlow Advertiser on 11 May 1918 includes Scott's name in a list of Shropshire officers wounded, at this time he was serving on secondment with the Royal Engineers.
Perhaps weakened by his wounds Scott caught Influenza in July 1918 but managed to recover after a spell at home until August. Promoted Captain while commanding a Company on 8 November 1918 it was presumably for this service that he was mentioned (M.I.D. London Gazette 16 March 1919.)
Scott resigned his commission on 2 March 1920, appearing on the 1939 census as a banker he appears to have served in a Civil Defence role during the Second World War. He died at Farnham, Surrey on 18 April 1952; sold together with copied research.
