William John Ruther was born at Abergavenny in 1880 and was a railway platelayer before he enlisted into the South Wales Borderers. He enlisted on the 28 October 1914 and entered the war in France on 10 December 1914 and is entitled to a 1914-15 Star Trio. He suffered a Debility on 28 March 1915 and was evacuated on the Ambulance Train No.2. He was discharged on 10 January 1916 as a result of sickness and is entitled to a Silver War Badge (87309).
