M.I.D. as per GGO 895 of 1891 for the operations of the 2nd Brigade, Wuntho Field Force.
Alexander Donald Charters Pond was born on 5 September 1858 and was firstly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant into the 100th Regiment of Foot (Leinster) in November 1879.
Advanced Lieutenant in February 1891, he transferred to the Bengal Staff Corps in November 1884 and thence joined the 5th Bengal Infantry as a Wing Officer in February 1885. Having served with his unit in Burma, he was further attached to the Burma Police in January 1890 and was Assistant Commandant and Second-in-Command of the Military Police Battalion at Ye-U from that point. Serving in that roll till November 1890, he reverted as Wing Officer in his unit (Medal & 3 clasps).
Then serving on the North-West Frontier of India (Medal & 2 clasps), he was made a Double Company Commander in the 5th Bengal Infantry in November 1899, before going on for plague duty in Bombay in July 1900. Pond was Station Staff Officer at Dibrugarth in October 1901 and then Staff Officer and Commanding the Assam Valley Light Horse as a Major in October 1902, being Second-in-Command of the 5th Bengal Infantry from March 1902. Advanced Lieutenant-Colonel in February 1907, he retired in November 1907; sold together with riband bar, two studio portraits of the recipient, together with a catalogue of images of the Tirah Expedition by Sergeant Clarke R.E. and copied research.
