[M.C.] London Gazette 1 January 1917.
[Second award Bar] London Gazette 1 February 1919, the official citation states:
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the nine miles advance east of Ypres from 28th September to 5th October,1918. Although the roads were almost impassable and under heavy shell fire, rendering the difficulties of ammunition and ration supply colossal, his arrangements and supervision of their forward delivery were excellent. He worked indefatigably, practically without rest throughout the operations.'
Louis John Austin Will was born at Bayswater, London on 24 March 1893 the son of Louis Eugene Will. He was educated at Wimbledon College from 1903 until 1911 receiving the accolade of Captain of the school in his final year. Commissioned in the Worcestershire Regiment in October 1914, he served in the 10th Battalion winning the first of his Military Crosses gazetted in January 1917.
Shortly after the Battle of Loos, Will received a staff appointment with the 28th Infantry Brigade and a second Military Cross for arranging the delivery of ammunition and rations under heavy shell fire. The Wimbledon News of 6 January 1917 records that Will was twice wounded. Curiously in the 1939 Register, Will is recorded as 'Incapacitated' suggesting that the wounds he received were serious enough to cause hardship in later life. Will died at Ealing on 10 April 1954; sold together with copied research.
