The 1914-15 Star awarded to Private J. M. Allen, 2nd Battalion, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment, who was killed in action on the First Day of the Battle of the Somme

1914-15 Star (4604 Pte. J. M. Allen. The Queen's R.), good very fine

James Morgan Allen was born in 1896 at Borough, Southwark and enlisted into The Queen's Regiment in February 1915. He served in France with the 2nd Battalion from 1 June 1915 and was killed in action on 1 July 1916. On the First Day of the Battle of the Somme, the unit were part of 7th Division and attacked near Mametz, he is commemorated upon the Thiepval Memorial; sold together with a newspaper extract which includes his portrait.
