(x) Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Somaliland 1920 (268317 A.C.2. J. S. Richardson R.A.F.), small edge bruise and with suspension repinned the wrong way round

John Sylvester Richardson was born on 7 July 1900 at Millom, Cumberland. He was a labourer within the munitions trade before he enlisted into the Royal Air Force on 3 July 1918. Richardson saw service in France with the B.E.F. between 1 March 1919 - 30 August 1919 before going to the Officer Cadet School Cadre at Manston, Kent from 30 August 1919 -24 October 1919. He then saw service with the O/S Section until he saw service in the Middle East until 13 November 1919 when he served aboard the Ark Royal from 24 December 1920 returning to Egypt on 27 April 1920. He was given the rank of Aircraftsman 2nd Class with the Trade of Batman from 16 November 1920 and was discharged on 7 February 1921 but was to serve on the reserve between 29 August 1924 - 28 August 1928.

A total of 225 medals were awarded to the Royal Air Force.
