Edward Rigden was born and raised in Canterbury, Kent and worked as a clerk before enlisting into the Army in 1898 aged 18 years old. He joined the Army Service Corps and is further entitled to a Queen's South Africa Medal with 6 clasps, Rigden died of disease at Zeerust, in northern South Africa on 24 January 1901.
