A rare Queen's South Africa medal awarded to Driver C. Terry, 'Y' Battery, Royal Horse Artillery, who saw service in South Africa despite his unit not being deployed on that campaign

Charles Alexander Terry was born at All Saints, Maidstone, Kent in 1870 and attested at Maidstone on 12 July 1889. Serving at home for several years he was posted to 'N' Battery, Royal Horse Artillery in India on 25 February 1891. Returning to Britain he was posted to the Army Reserve on 18 December 1898 he returned to the colours the next year on 8 November 1899. Posted to South Africa on 25 March 1900 he served for a little over three months before returning Home on 11 July 1900. Terry was again posted to the Reserve and discharged on 1 April 1902.
