John Putt served as the Lloyd’s Signalmaster at Tynmouth, and was awarded his Lloyd’s Medal for Services to Lloyd’s by Committee decision on 21 June 1933. He retired to Paignton, Devon and had been in the service of Lloyds for some 46 years'. Prior to being at North Sheilds, he served at the Lizard for 20 years and also at Port Said Wireless Station, being commended for service there.
Only 8 Lloyd’s Medals for Services to Lloyd’s in silver were awarded between the institution of the award in 1917, and the closure of the final Lloyd’s Signalling Station in September 1969, all but one of which were awarded to Signalmasters.
