M.M. London Gazette 24 January 1919.
Eric Sorby Straw was born at Streatham, London in 1896, the son of Charles Straw, a successful horse dealer who owned Manor Stables at 27 Mitcham Lane. Charles traded horses with King Edward VII, the Emperor of Austria and the Prince of Siam.
Educated locally, he enlisted in the 10th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers and landed in France on 3 December 1916 winning the Military Medal at the end of the war. Returning from the war Straw became a farmer and lived with his wife, Madge, at Babington Road, Streatham. During the 1930's Straw was active in the London dog showing circuit, both as a competitor and as a judge.
During the Second World War Straw worked at Perry farm, New Chapel, East Grinstead. He also served as an air raid warden and likely entitled to a Defence Medal. Straw died at Newton Abbott, Devon in 1972; sold together with copied research.
