73 General Service Medals were issued to this unit with the combination N.W. Persia and Iraq.
John Andrew Duncan entered the war in France on 30 March 1915 with the 1/4th Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment. This unit saw heavy action at Ploegsteert and later during the Somme before being transferred to the Italian Front. There they operated mainly in the area of the Asiago Plateau for the bulk of the conflict and finished the war near Vigalzano.
After the war Duncan remained with the Battalion, being posted to the Middle East. A number of them were present in Iraq during the 1920 risings there and 73 of those soldiers also served with 4th Battalion as part of Norperforce; sold together with copied service papers.
