Richard Wilson Peck was born in 1898, a native of Hull, Yorkshire and entered the war in Egypt on 23 December 1915. After a period manning the Suez defences they were posted to France in March 1916 seeing heavy action on the Somme in 1916, at the Battle of the Scarpe and the Capture of Oppy Wood in 1917. Finally they saw extremely heavy fighting during the Spring Offensive and the Hundred Days.
