A 1945 O.B.E. and Italy operations M.I.D. group of four awarded to Lieutenant L. H. Way, Royal Engineers, later Land Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, 2nd Type, Civil Division, Officer's (O.B.E.) breast Badge, silver-gilt; British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Lieut. L. H. Way.); Italy, Altipiani Medal 1918, silver issue, with original bow riband, good very fine (4)

Lionel Hugh Way was born at Newport, Isle of Wight on 4 January 1885 and was educated at Newport Grammar. An Auction Surveyor and Estate Agent by trade, with the outbreak of the Great War he initially served in the ranks of the 3/2nd South Midland Field Company, Royal Engineers. Way was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 31 March 1917 and served overseas shortly after with th 475th Field Company. He was promoted Lieutenant in October 1918, having shared in the Battle of the Piave - Asiago Plateau in June 1918 (Silver Medal).
Discharged in February 1919, by the time of the Second World War he was an A.R.P. Warden living at Downshire Square, Reading; sold together with portrait photograph, forwarding letter for the O.B.E. and newspaper cutting.
