Defence and War Medals 1939-45, in their named box of issue, good very fine (2)
Peter Michael Coulterwas born at Liverpool in 1920, the son of Peter and Mary Coulter. He is listed variously as died of wounds, died 'Due to War Operations' and 'died of wounds received through enemy action'. He is buried at the Liverpool (Ford) Roman Catholic Cemetery, it should be noted that the day that Coulter died was 25 August 1940, the day after of the famous Murder Raid on Ramsgate. A Personal History of the 8th Irish Battalion, The Kings Liverpool Regiment states:
'The battalion was having active experience along the Kent coastline mainly using its Bren guns at any low flying German aircraft trying to strafe our defence posts and unhappily had its first casualties at Ramsgate when a Bren-gun post, stationed on the roof of the Saint Lawrence College, was dive bombed with two men killed and others wounded. It is a sad and somber [SIC] time when friends die suddenly, perhaps more so when defending ones own country. Britain had a long history of fighting wars in foreign countries, but our country and its people were totally unprepared for the murderous air attacks which followed later.'
