(x) An 'El-Alemain 1942' casualty campaign group of six awarded to Private W. G. Henderson, 2/4th Battalion, Australian Infantry, who died of wounds suffered during the Battle on 28 October

William George Henderson was born at Melbourne, Victoria on 20 March 1912 and enlisted at Paddington, New South Wales on 20 March 1940. Arriving at Palestine on 11 October 1940 he was posted to 2/4th Battalion on 25 October 1940 and embarked for Greece on 31 March 1941. They were engaged at the Battle of Vevi near the border in freezing temperatures however soon the Allied resistance in Greece collapsed.

Evacuated to Egypt on 30 June 1941 Henderson was posted to 2/17th Battalion on 31 July 1942. Engaged in a blocking position at Tel El Eisa they entered the fighting at El-Alamein on 23 October as part of 9 Australian Division. After four days at the tip of the advance they were halted on 27 October and ordered to secure vital ground against multiple counter-attacks, Henderson was wounded the next day on 28 October 1942.

He was taken to 15 (Scottish) General Hospital however the wounds proved mortal and he died of wounds on 15 November 1942. Henderson is buried at buried at El Ballah Military Cemetery on 16 November 1942; sold together with copied research.
