Henry Harrison was born on 5 November 1923 at Hulme, Manchester and was a fruiterers assistant upon the outbreak of the Second World War. Given his age, he first served in the Home Guard before enlisting in December 1941.
Harrison shared in the famed actions of the 1st (Airborne) Battalion, The Border Regiment, including the Battle of Arnhem. Serving with 'B' Company, he was confirmed as a Prisoner of War on 25 Septmber 1944. Whilst behind the wire, he suffered an accident to his left hand which was treated by a German Medical Officer.
Having been released to the Reserve in January 1947, Harrison returned to the fold and enlisted in the Irish Guards at Manchester on 22 May 1947. He served with the 1st (Guards) Independant Parachute Company (Pathfinders) of the Parachute Regiment in Palestine (Medal & clasp) adn then the 16th (Guards) Independant Pathfinder Company in Cyprus (clasp); sold together with copied service records and details from RHQ Irish Guards in June 1994.
