Five: Private S. V. J. Gore, Royal Army Service Corps, who was taken Prisoner of War during the Liberation of Greece in December 1944

Stanley Victore John Gore served with the Royal Army Service Corps and was taken prisoner of war in Greece on 13 December 1944. Not long after the outbreak of the Dekemvriana in mainland Greece, it is unclear whether Gore went 'in the bag' in Greece itself or on the Dodecanese although there were no major actions in the latter theatre at the time. After his release Gore went to work as a window cleaner, a newspaper obituary states:

'Window Cleaner Dies

Known to many Bradstonians for several years as one of the town's few window cleaners, Mr. Stanley Victor John Gore died on Friday, aged 53. Mr Gore, who had recently moved to St. Peter's Park-road, Broadstairs, from Beacon-road, St. Peter's, died in Margate Hospital after an illness of about two months. His elder brother, Harry, died about 3 ½ years ago, prior to which for many years they worked together in the town as Gore Brothers. Their late mother lived in Prospect-road. The general service for Mr. Gore, who leaves a widow, step-daughter and sister, will take place at St. Peter's Church today, followed by the cremation at Thanet Crematorium, Margate.'

Three photographs including 2 of the recipient.

Four postcard photographs of soldiers in unform, some believed to be the recipient and others his father, all either annotated or used as correspondence.
