Four: Warrant Officer D. J. Galsworthy, Royal Air Force, late Royal Garrison Artillery, who joined the Royal Air Force in May 1924 and who was to be a Musician with the Royal Air Force Central Band

Diamond Jubilee Galsworthy was born at New Swindon, Swindon, Wiltshire on 22 June 1897. He attested at Devonport on 16 February 1912 as a Boy, serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery between 16 February 1912 - 21 June 1915, he reached his majority on 22 June 1915. Galsworthy was appointed Musician on 18 February 1916 and served at home for the whole of the Great War. He only saw service with the B.E.F. after the end of hostilities, from 15 November 1918 until 23 May 1919, before returning home and completing his service on 1 October 1920. He was discharged by Purchase, and left with the same rank of Musician.

The entry for the 1921 Census notes him as 'out of work' having previously served on the Union Castle Shipping Line. He then served as a Musician with Swansea Borough Police between November 1923-May 1924. Galsworthy enlisted with the Royal Air Force on 15 May 1924 to serve as a Musician Group 3 and was serving with the R.A.F. Central Band based at R.A.F. Uxbridge from 20 May 1924, he was reclassified as A.C.2. on 18 August 1924 and to L.A.C. on 19 August 1924. He reached the rank of Warrant Officer on 8 January 1945 and at that time was serving with the Aden Protectorate Levies whose role was to protect the R.A.F. Stations on the Aden Protectorate. Galsworthy died at Hampshire in October 1949.
