John George Frederick Winter was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 8 July 1915 into the South Staffordshire Regiment. He served on the Western Front from 24 May 1916 and was promoted Lieutenant on 24 October 1916, Winter also served with the 1/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters which is confirmed on his MIC.
His Great War pair was issued by the South Staffordshire Regiment and he applied for his medals on 3 December 1921 and they were sent to him at 29 Aston Road, Southsea, Hampshire. After the war he became a Solicitor and worked in Portsmouth, whilst living in Cosham, however he collapsed at work and died at the Queen Alexandra Hospital on 11 May 1961 at the age of 70.
