Jack Masters attested into the 16th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters at Buxton on 3 June 1915. He entered the war in France on 6 March 1916 and suffered gun shot wounds to both thighs and his left arm in September 1916. Masters was placed on the Hospital Ship Asturias on 13 September 1916, consequently he returned Home on 15 September 1916. He was transferred to Army Reserve on 10 June 1917 and was eventually discharged as no longer physically fit for active service on 4 October 1917 and is further entitled to a Silver War Badge (260662).
