The G.S.M. awarded to Fusilier N. O. Cocker, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, who served in No. 8 Platoon with Fusilier Bakkor during Operation Granby when he won the Q.G.M. in a tragic friendly fire incident
General Service 1962-2007, 1 clasp, Kuwait (24836833 Fus N P Cocker RRF), sold together with its named box of issue and a letter from the War Pensions Agency, nearly extremely fine
N. P. Cocker was serving with 'C' Company, 8 Platoon, Headquarters Section during Operation Granby alongside Fusilier S Bakkor. They were travelling in Warrior armoured vehicles on 26 February 1991 when an American Thunderbolt, mistaking them for Iraqi tanks attacked. One of the vehicles took a hit and a total of nine British personnel were killed in the incident.
Bakkor acting as turret gunner for his vehicle saw the other go up and immediately leapt out of the warrior, sprinting over the gap to try and rescue the gunner in the damaged vehicle. Secondary explosions were going up all the while and one of these blew Bakkor from the Warrior, wounding him in the leg. As a member of his section Cocker was doubtless also present and under fire from the American Aircraft; sold together with copied research as well as a copy of the Special September 1991 edition of The Fusilier.
