The Victory Medal to Leading Aircraftsman W. C. Blackwood, Royal Air Force, who was awarded an M.S.M. for South Russia and who was additionally awarded a Medal of Zeal

William Charles Blackwood was born at Kennington, London on 4 March 1897 and was draughtsman before he joined the Royal Naval Air Service (F.7121) on 31 July 1915. He served on President II before transferring to Daedalus on 1 July 1917. He transferred to the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918. Blackwood saw service in South Russia with No.47 Squadron which arrived in South Russia in April 1919 the Squadron was ordered to carry out operational sorties and was equipped with a mixture of aircraft, with flights equipped with Airco DH.9 and DH.9A bombers and Sopwith Camel fighters. The squadron's flights operated independently, carrying out bombing and strafing missions against Bolshevik forces. Blackwood returned to South London and as a civilian became a heating and domestic fitter.

Blackwood is entitled to a British War and Victory Medal pair, issued by the Air Ministry.
