1914-15 Star (Capt: G. E. O. F. Lambart. 19/Hrs:), good very fine
Gerald Edgar Oliver Fortescue Lambart was born at Dublin in November 1885, the son of Colonel Edgar Lambart and a relative of the Earl of Cavan. Educated at Laleham and Eton College, he was commissioned into the 19th Hussars in January 1905 and was employed with the West African Frontier Force from May 1910. Lambart served in the campaign in West Africa in the Cameroons with the 2nd Battalion, Nigeria Regiment, being invalided home in December 1914.
Transferred to the Royal Scots Fusiliers, he served in France, being advanced Major in March 1916. He served in the actions of the St Eloi Craters and was mortally wounded on 25 March 1916. He died in hospital near Poperinghe the following day and is buried in the Lilienhoek Military Cemetery.
His Victory Medal was sold in these rooms in April 1999.
