Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Natal, Orange Free State, Transvaal (3659. Pte. F. G. Wilkins. 5/Lcrs.), naming engraved in sloping serifs, light contact marks, one minor edge knock, very fine
Frederick George Wilkins was born in Maidstone, Kent circa 1871 and attested with the 5th Royal Irish Lancers at Canterbury on 29 March 1889 at age 19 after working as a carpenter. In July 1894, Wilkins was tried by court marital and awarded 84 days imprisonment. Wilkins was stationed in South Africa from 5 March 1898 until returning to England on 18 March 1902. He was later discharged at Canterbury on 12 July 1902 upon the termination of his limited period of engagement. Wilkins is confirmed upon the roll with entitlement to this medal and clasp combination.
