Robert Shemmings, a 19-year-old groom from Harleston, Suffolk enlisted in the Essex Regiment on 28 March 1882. He saw active service in Egypt from February 1884 until July 1884 and is additionally entitled to a Khedives Star 1884-86. Shemmings was discharged on 27 March 1894.
