James Crone, born in 1838 at Glasgow, was a tailor prior to enlisting in the 42nd Royal Highlanders on 7 August 1848. He embarked for Varna on 20 May 1854 returning to England on 17 September 1855. He was wounded in the trenches before Sebastopol by a grape shot on 18 June 1855 and had difficulty walking, which led to his eventual medical discharge on 28 September 1855; sold together with copied service papers.
