c1862 Three autograph letters, probably from Cairo, written in French by Alexandrine Pieternella Tinne (1839-1869), Dutch traveller, to the explorer and zoologist Theodor von Heughlin. Tinne, one of the wealthiest women in Holland organised an expedition along the Nile hoping to meet up with Speke's expedition in Gondokoro. She explored the Nile basin and surrounding territories. These letters written during that period refer to difficulties. Her mother and aunt died during these travels. Tinne returned to Cairo where she lived in an oriental style. In 1869 she left Tripoli for Lake Chad but was murdered by bandits who believed she was transporting gold. Heughlin published studies of flora and fauna, Tinne having contributed to his research (3)
