Princesses Elizabeth & Margaret
1935 pair of studio photographs by Marcus Adams, of Princess Elizabeth, aged nine, and Princess Margaret, aged five, signed "Lilibet" and "Margaret" on the mount. The future Queen Elizabeth II signs using her family name. These were certainly presentation photographs for a member of the Royal Family. Marcus Adams has signed and dated each just below the image. The royal visit to his Children's Studio in London in December 1935 is recorded in "Marcus Adams / Royal Photographer" (Royal Collection Publications, 2010). "...they were photographed with two dolls evidently worthy of their own portrait. Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret wore matching dresses, trimmed with small flowers and delicate frills". Princess Elizabeth in this image holds a toy cat. A rare and iconic pair of signed photographs (9.3x6.9cm, laid down on a double mount)
