c1888 Mourning envelope "By Royal Messenger" in the hand of the eldest child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, whose husband, Emperor Frederick III died prematurely in 1888 after a reign of 99 days. The cover with her black wax seal and cypher on the reverse is addressed to General Sir John Cowell, the Master of the Household, at Buckingham Palace.
