J. H. Speke (1827-1864)
1863 (?) Autograph letter signed "J.H. Speke" by John Henning Speke, British military officer and explorer, who led three expeditions to Africa in search of the source of the Nile. He was the first European to reach Lake Victoria. The letter, dated 3rd June reads:
"My dear Sir, These are the three boxes of which we spoke yesterday which I shall feel obliged by your forwarding to England this mail with the other two, Yours truly. J. H. Speke". Together with an uncommon carte de visite photograph of Speke, both in a mount (29x45cm)
