Dr David Livingstone (1813-1873)
1857 4 sided autograph letter signed "David Livingstone", written from 57 Sloane Street to an unnamed correspondent, shortly after his return from his first African Expedition, having seen the Victoria Falls. He refers to men of the ship the "Philomel", aboard which he was treated for dysentery at Loanda in May 1854. Livingstone refers to his book that was published later in 1857 by John Murray titled "Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa". "I have no time to spare in England. Am at close work over a book and when that is over will leave for East Africa. 110 men like those you saw awaiting return in April". He refers to the death of his father. "This is written at a moment of relaxation". Together with a carte de visite portrait.
