1900 (30 Jan.) stampless envelope to Ontario bearing a superb strike of the Canadian Contingent "en route" dated oval in purple (Rowe type I), large "T" in circle and handstruck "4" in black applied in Canada, the reverse with Port Hope arrival (16.2); a fine cover. Mailed during a short stop at Cape Verde Islands on 31st January. Only twenty four "En Route" covers have been recorded. Photo

Note: Both "D" Battery and "E" Battery departed from Halifax on the S.S. 'Laurentian' on 20th January 1900
