"Rainbow" Trials
1d. deep blue, horizontal pair with sheet margin at left, on watermark small crown sideways, ungummed paper, both impressions cancelled by trial Maltese Cross cancellations in black and with c.11mm. razor cuts which are believed to relate to the abrading experiments reported on 17 September by Rowland Hill to Sir Francis Baring, and are known on other examples of this trial. Small scissor cuts at foot and negligible thin in lower left corner of the left hand impression, otherwise fine and an important rarity. Spec. DP20F(a), £20,000+. Photo.
