A180, dated 7 May 1840 (second Official day of use), from Daniel O'Connell to the Corn Exchange Rooms in Dublin, red Maltese Cross cancellation and clear datestamps on reverse, also 2d. Envelope, a 208, dated 23 May 1840, from the same correspondence, with red Maltese Cross cancellation and similar wafer seal showing the O'Connell seal and two Deers; fine. Two new discoveries, unrecorded in "May Dates" and an extraordinary matched pair, worthy of Exhibition. Photo.

note: Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847), member of Parliament for Clare (1828-30) and Dublin (1837-41), Lord Mayor of Dublin (1841-42), hailed in his time as The Liberator, was the acknowledged political leader of Irelands Roman Catholic majority
