For Use in Egypt
1886 (9 May) a presentation sheet of paper headed "Specimens of Adhesive Stamps employed by the British Military Telegraphs in Egypt 1884-5-6" bearing 1d. (2) to £1 tied by large double-ring "army telegraphs/cairo" c.d.s., the first 1d. has been cut diagonally into two with "½" written beside each half. Below is written "To Emile Effi Vidale, Inspector General Imp. Ottoman Posts & Telegraphs in Syria. Cairo 9th May 86" and signed "Arthur Bagnold Major Director Army". This is the only record of the 1d. bisected for use as ½d. Photo
