Francis Arthur Buchanan Barnard disembarked on 7 August 1915 with the 5th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. He was 'mentioned' (London Gazette 22 May 1917, refers) and by the end of the Great War, had been promoted from 2nd Lieutenant to Captain. Barnard then served throughout the Second World War with the regimental number 74989. From 1 September - July 1944, he appears of Royal Air Force lists serving with the Administrative Special Duties Branch as a Squadron Leader in the Territorials and was mentioned in dispatches.
