(x) Rear Admiral Sir Robert Calder, an archive of nine documents including contemporary pamphlets of his court martial
Request for Ordnance stores for H.M.S. Defence, written from H.M.S. Ville de Paris in Lisbon and signed by Calder, dated 20 January 1797, minor paper loss from seal and light stains, otherwise very fine condition;
Naval Order for Captain Spencer of H.M.S. Spencer to place himself under Calder’s command, written aboard H.M.S. Prince of Wales and signed by Rear Admiral Sir Robert Calder, dated 7 February 1801, folds and minor ageing, clear and legible;
Request for Ordnance stores for H.M.S. Ville de Paris, written aboard that ship off the coast of Cadiz, signed by Calder, dated 21 May 1798, minor paper loss from seal, light ageing stains, otherwise very fine condition;
Letter addressed to Admiral Berkely requesting the discharge of James Virgo from H.M.S. Macedonian to Salvador del Mundo to be sent to England to give evidence in a trial, signed by Calder, dated 11 May 1811, some minor paper loss to edge, edge wear and some tears, hole at centre fold, ageing, but text is clear and legible;
Letter to Commissioner Fanshaw noting enclosed list of Spartan’s defects [list not included], signed aboard Salvador del Mundo by Calder, dated 13 June 1811, minor edge tears and light ageing;
Autograph letter written and signed by Calder in Plymouth, dated 5 January 1812, in very fine condition for its age;
Document appointing Mr. Philip Miller the Master of the Pyramus until further orders, signed by Calder aboard Salvador del Mundo, dated 2 January 1813, light age stains and minor tears, text clear and legible;
Together with two printed pamphlets ‘Minutes of the Proceedings at a Court Martial, Assembled on board His Majesty’s Ship Prince of Wales, in Portsmouth Harbour, on Monday, the 23rd Day of December, 1805m and the Three following Days, for the trial of Sir Robert Calder, Bart. Vice Admiral of the Blue’, printed by T. Bensley, London, 1806, each in good condition and appear to contain all pages, some light wear to pages and spine damage (9)
