(x) Ticket relating to the death and internment of Lord Nelson, potentially an invitation to view his body laying in state at the Painted Hall in Greenwich

Ticket with Greek key border marked ‘No 2’ addressed ‘Mr Perez’, printed by Neale and Bailey and predating Nelson’s funeral on 9 January 1806, mounted on firm card backing, some stains to upper left corner

Text of ticket reads “The Lord wrought a Great Victory that Day, 21st Oct. 1805, over the Combined Fleets of France and Spain, off Trafalgar. But it was turned into Mourning unto all the People; because one of the Valiant of Israel, whose Heart was the Heart of a Lion, Vice Admiral Lord Viscount Nelson, fell in Battle, whose Remains are to be deposited under the Dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Jan. 9th, 1806.”

Given that the ticket predates Nelson’s funeral, this could possibly be used to grant admittance to view his body laying in state at Greenwich’s Painted Hall, where his coffin was on display for three days before being moved for the funeral at St. Paul’s Cathedral. This could also potentially be for admittance to one of the many Thanksgiving services taking place across the country in the wake of his death.
