(x) A Small or Court Sword, of 18th Century manufacture, straight steel blade with traces of decoration including 'Prince of Wales feathers' and motto 'Ich Dien' below, gilded brass guard and pommel, wooden grip bound in brass and copper wire, overall length 1025mm; A Sword in the style of an 1805-Pattern Royal Navy officer's sword, utilising an earlier and foreign-made blade, this engraved Viva Ferdinando IV to one side and Re Delle Sicile Viva to the other, gilded base metal guard and lion's head pommel with traces of gilding, langets with Fouled Anchors, bone or ivorine grip, overall length 790mm, first with gilding loss around guard, both with old rust pitting to blades, otherwise about very fine (2)

Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies (1751 - 1825) was known as Ferdinand IV in his capacity as King of Naples, and as Ferdinand III as King of Sicily. On 23 December 1798, Ferdinand and his family famously fled from Naples to seek safety from the invading French army aboard Horatio Nelson's flagship, the 74-gun H.M.S. Vanguard.
