(x) Sultan's Medal for Egypt 1801, silver, 36mm, fitted with hook and chain suspension, suspended from a riband bearing a silver three-pronged buckle and a silver clasp, 'Egypt 1801', in the style of a clasp for the Army Gold Medal series, good very fine

Four sizes of gold medal and one size of silver medal were authorised by Sultan Selim III to reward British officers and men involved in the Expedition to Egypt in 1801. Silver medals are thought to have been awarded to certain Non-Commissioned Officers, and in 1814 further silver medals were awarded to soldiers from the Bombay Army who also participated in the campaign.
