Provenance
The Little Busby Hoard of Roman Denarii, found at Little Busby, North Yorkshire, on 2 June 2021 [PAS YORYM-B64A28]
Here, the hoard reaches the post-quinquennial period, following Hadrian's fifth year as Emperor, and the adoption of a curt new obverse inscription, HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS. Removing the earlier references to dynastic continuity, Hadrian ties his name to that of the first Princeps in a bold statment of legitimacy.
