Patrick Feeney was born at Kilmacshalgan, Sligo, Ireland and enlisted into the 1st Foot at Castlebar, Mayo, Ireland on 4 October 1854. His papers state that he served 2 years and 2 months in the Mediterranean followed by 1 year and 2 months service in the Crimea. He was awarded a Crimea Medal with Sebastopol clasp as well as a Turkish Crimea medal, later being posted to the East Indies where he served a further 10 years and 3 months. Feeney received his L.S. & G.C. with a Gratuity of £5 on 4 October 1876 and was discharged at Netley on 10 April 1877.
