The M.M. awarded to Bombardier E. Veal. 'B' Battery, 251 (Northumberland) Brigade, Royal Field Artillery (Territorial Force), who had his left leg amputated after a severe wound in November 1917

Edmund Veal was born at Hull, Yorkshire around 1901 and attested for the Territorial Force on 16 March 1910. Embodied for service with the 2nd Northumbrian Brigade on 5 August 1914, he was posted to France with the 1st Battery on 19 April 1915.

He transferred to 'B' Battery, 251st (Northumberland) Brigade on 14 May 1916 and was promoted Bombardier with them on 16 December. With this unit Veal was in action in November 1917 when he received a severe gunshot wound to the left knee, which was amputated at 22 General Hospital on 27 November.

Transferred back to Britian, Veal was treated at 1st Northern General Hospital in Newcastle and placed on furlough. He was invalided on 16 October 1918; sold together with copied research.
