M.M. London Gazette 11 October 1916.

M.I.D. London Gazette 20 October 1914.

George F. Fuller entered the war in France on 17 August 1914 when the Regiment was serving with the 3rd Cavalry Brigade, part of the 1st Cavalry Division. They took part in the Battles at Mons and Le Cateau before moving to act as a screen for the rest of the Army as it withdrew to the Marne. Here they saw heavy fighting covering the Royal Engineers as they blew the bridges behind the retreating British. Retreat and Rearguard, 1914 notes one specific incident, stating:

'Barely a mile to the north at Le Plessis, 4/Dragoons were falling in on parade when the first rounds from German Horse artillery fell in the village and at Jussy to the southeast of St. Simon, 16/Lancers from Gough's Brigade were driven out of the village but managed to hold their own until the Bridge, prepared for demolition on 26 August by Lieutenant Robert Flint and his sappers, was destroyed.'

The Regiment was not heavily involved in the Battle of the Somme and as such Fuller's M.M. is an unusual award. He is further entitled to a 1914 Star Trio with M.I.D. Oak leaf, as well as an Army L.S. & G.C. medal (A.O. 150. 1927).
