The 1917 M.C. group of three awarded to Lieutenant F. G. Coles, Royal Field Artillery, who was killed in action on 25 September 1917

Note Commonwealth War Graves gives the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, however the recipient's M.I.C. clearly states Lieutenant, the rank which appears upon his medals.

Frederick George Coles was born at Hounslow, Middlesex in 1884 and enlisted before the Great War (No. 24131), appearing on the 1911 census as serving with the 26th Battery and 9th Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery at Trimulgherry, Deccan.

Serving for several years he was advanced Sergeant and entered the Great War in France on 19 August 1914 (Star), being commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 7 October 1915. Coles was attached to the 16th Trench Mortar Battery on 25 September 1917 during the Battle of Passchendaele where he was killed in action. He is buried at the St. Leger British Cemetery; sold together with copied research.
