Leonard Gordon Jackson was born on 5 May 1907 and joined the Royal Air Force as a Boy entrant on 11 September 1923. He was promoted to Aircraftsman 2nd Class on 31 December 1925 and to Leading Aircraftsman exactly a year later. Jackson embarked for China on 20 April 1927 aboard Neuralia and disembarked at Shanghai on 30 May 1927. He re-embarked for the U.K. on 13 September 1927 and disembarked at Manston on 23 October 1927. He spent much of his time based at Tangmere with No. 2 Squadron.
Promoted to Corporal on 31 December 1932, Jackson then served with No. 45 Squadron and No. 47 Squadron seeing service in the Sudan ahead of being promoted Acting Sergeant on 4 May 1937. With the outbreak of the Second World War he was with No. 64 Squadron who flew Blenheims patrolling the east coast of England. The Squadron converted to Spitfires in April 1940 and were based at Turnhouse. Jackson became attached to the H.Q. of No. 10 Group on 21 August 1943 and was eventually released from service on 11 August 1945. He died after the termination of his release leave with his medals sent to his widow.
