The Victory Medal awarded to Private W. Cornes, King's Shropshire Light Infantry, who was awarded a D.C.M. in 1920 whilst serving with the North Staffordshire Regiment

Victory Medal 1914-19 (7095 Pte. C. W. Cornes. Shrops. L. I.), contact marks, very fine

[D.C.M.] London Gazette 11 March 1920, the original citation states:

'As platoon Sergeant in Nov 1918 he handled his men in a very able manner. He has at all times set a fine example of fearless devotion to duty to his men under heavy shellings which has enabled work to be continued under very trying conditions.'

Charles W. Cornes entered the war in France on 10 September 1914 and is entitled to a 1914 Star Trio, he has two M.I.C.s with one to a Private No. 7095 serving in the 1st Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry, this also refers to another M.I.C., "See No.19453 N.Staff.R."

The M.I.C. for his Shropshire Light Infantry shows entitlement to a 1914 Star Trio with the Star being issued just once, but the pair being issued and returned on two separate occasions.

The M.I.C. for his North Staffordshire entry notes the issue of a pair to him as 19453 Sergeant with entry only for a pair, this however notes these were returned as duplicates.
