Afghanistan 1878-80, 1 clasp, Kandahar (3306. Gunr. G. Rundle. 5/11th. Bde. R.A.), light contact marks to obverse, very fine
G. Rundle had his medal issued to him at by the Officer Commanding, R.A. Mhow Division, India.
5/11th Brigade, Royal Artillery left Morar for Multan on 25 September 1878 under the command of Major Collingwood. They saw no major action in the country but in February 1880 arrived at Kandahar to bolster the fortifications there, mounting their guns on the citadel walls.
They suffered through the siege of the city with the rest of the Garrison and were deployed after the arrival of General Roberts in the Battle of Kandahar. Here they fired 161 rounds into Ayub Khan's army and after the battle was won, escorted the 30 guns taken from the Afghans back to India; sold together with copied and typed research.
