179 Kandahar Bars issued to C Battery, 2nd Brigade.
William Burd was serving with C Battery, 2nd Brigade when they were posted to Kandahar, arriving in March 1880. After the British defeat at Maiwand Ayub Khan brought Kandahar under siege and the battery was heavily involved in the defence. Notably they shelled the village of Deh Khojah during the sortie against it on 16 August, with one member of the Battery, Trumpeter J. J. McGlynn winning the D.C.M. in the fighting. After the arrival of General Roberts' Army on 31 August the C Battery joined them for action the Battle of Kandahar, bombarding the position of Gundi Mullah Sahibdad ahead of its storming; sold together with typed and copied research.
