Afghanistan 1878-80, 1 clasp, Kandahar (556, Pte. P. Ashenden, 2/7th Foot), very fine

Philip James Ashenden was born on 6 February 1855 in St. George's Grove, Islington in London - the son of William Ashenden, who worked as a prison 'convict keeper', and his wife Mary. Ashenden enlisted into the 49th Brigade at Woolwich on 14 January 1874 at the age of nineteen. A few months later on 29 April, he joined the 1/7th Foot.

Ashenden served at home for a few years ahead of being posted to India on 30 September 1876, once there he joined the 2/7th Foot at Belgaum. He participated in the Afghan Campaign with his Regiment and later returned to England from Kandahar on 7 February 1881; sold together with copied research.
